Climate Change

The theme for Ecostitchers in 2021 was Climate Change and its effects on the marine environment. My focus was the 5 Weirs Walk, an area in Sheffield badly affected by floods in 2007. I explored the walk from Lady's Bridge in the centre of Sheffield, to Meadowhall and researched the development work that’s been done in this area to help prevent future flooding.
Using cotton and silk fabrics, I dyed, printed, screen printed, breakdown printed and stencilled, creating unique background fabrics. These were cut up, reassembled and bonded to a felt base before being machine quilted into place. Further hand and machine embroidery was added as well as beading and stitched floral motifs from flowers and plants found on the walk.
